A public talk by Dr. Andy Ridgway, University of the West of England Bristol, on "Who do People Really Trust Online? Insights from Research into Parents' Social Media Use and Implications for Food Waste Reduction Campaigns".
What and who people trust online has implications for how we address global challenges ranging from vaccine hesitancy to the management of natural resources. This talk will provide insights from research exploring interactions about food on social media into how judgements about trust are made online. The research demonstrates how evaluations of expertise and trust have been transformed by online interaction and become much more fluid. The study was ultimately aimed at developing new, innovative, approaches to campaigns aimed at reducing domestic food waste. It demonstrates the need to provide voices to a broader range of individuals who are now trusted, given the transformations in assessments of expertise that have taken place.
