80 years ago, 16 th of June 1943, " spy princess" Noor Inayat Khan was flown into France to do her work as a radio operator against the Nazi occupation of France.She was the first female radio operator for SOE, the british Special operations executive spy network.In October 1943, after 3 and a half month, she was traited and captured by the Sicherheitsdienst of the Nazis. Almost a year later in September 1944, refusing to cooperate with the germans and several escape attemps, she was transfered to concentration camp Dachau in Germany,where she was cruelly tortured to death. In her time as a radio operator,from June 1943 to mid-October 1943, she was the only radio operator at all in Paris,her predecessors all just having been captured by the Gestapo.
This walk takes us through Rue de la Faisanderie in 16th arrondissement of Paris.We take a harder look at 98 Rue de la Faisanderie,as it was in this house, Noor Inayat Khan was captured on 13th of October 1943.According to the book "Spy princess" by Shrabani Basu there was, like nowadays, a baker's shop downstairs in the house.
After being captured in this flat the Sicherheitsdienst of the SS brought Noor with a car to Avenue Foch 84, the house where the Sicherheitsdienst of the SS housed and interrogated their most important prisoners.
We walk the short way to this house on foot,have an intense look at 84 Avenue Foch and try to look on the back site of the house from the street around the corner, Boulevard de l'Amiral Bruix. Unfortunately other houses and trees block the view.As told by Jean Overton Fuller in her book " Madeleine ", Noor did three escape attemts from Avenue Foch 84. The first just an hour after her arrival, the second with two other prisoners on the night of 25th to 26th of November 1943 almost succeding,only being caught by bad luck.
It seems she successfully escaped the next morning whilst being transferred to a prison in Germany, but was, as it appears,recaptured later that day and send on her way to misery, torture and in the end cruel execution in Germany. In 4K Ultra HD 60fps
