One of the popular methods that they use is mobile chicken coops, which are also known as chicken tractors. These pens allow the chickens to roam freely and graze on fresh grass and insects in a new area each day. The chickens are protected from predators and have ample space to move around, leading to healthier and happier birds.
But that's not all. Farmers also use electric netting or other types of fencing to create designated grazing areas for their birds. This way, the chickens have access to fresh grass and insects, which are a natural part of their diet, and can be moved to a new area periodically to ensure optimal grazing conditions. These methods also prevent overgrazing and allow the grass to regenerate, contributing to a sustainable ecosystem.
Rotational grazing techniques are also used by farmers. Using an area for grazing and allowing it to rest and regenerate helps maintain soil health and prevent erosion. This method not only benefits the chickens but also the entire ecosystem, including other animals and plants.
Raising poultry in the pasture requires lots of space, access to fresh food and water, and protection from predators.
