What are your thoughts on CompTIA Pentest+? I want to improve my offensive skills so I can improve my defense skills, but I’m not sure which way to go.
CEH and Pentest+ are the only two offsec certs that I’m familiar with.
That’s a really good idea; increasing your offensive skills to increase your defensive skills. That’s exactly what I did and that’s exactly how I got into cyber security.
I wouldn’t really recommend getting CEH to be honest. For me, I just studied OSCP, I didn’t actually get the certification. I just studied and that was kind of enough to help me break into security.
But if you really want to get a certification, I might look at The Cyber Mentor’s (TCM Security’s) PNPT.
As far as practical skills go, I would say it’s pretty good to be honest. It’s not really recognized by HR at least at the level of OSCP, but I would definitely check it out.
If you really want to get that nice HR offsec cert, I would go for OSCP, but bear in mind that it’s quite difficult and it will be quite the marathon to get.
But yeah! Great question, and good luck!
