EPISODE 02 | Ian + Tyler’s Indy Neighborhood Tours

FOUNTAIN SQUARE📍Retro, Vintage, Hip. Welcome to Indianapolis’s first commercial historic district! Fountain Square had its come-up as the main theater district. From 1910-1950 there were more than 7 thriving theaters in FTSQ.
-
Fountain Square was hit hard by the introduction of the interstates and subsequent “white flight” to the suburbs. The 65/70 Interstate actually took out a large chunk of the residential area and left it stranded from the rest of downtown. The city began to target the redevelopment of the area in the 80s / 90s and we are just now seeing the fruition of those efforts!
-
Now, Fountain Square is one of the most sought after urban neighborhoods of Indy - for good reason. There are now many independent restaurants, music venues, breweries, coffee shops, and other storefronts. The fountains, which were symbolically removed from Fountain Square in the 50s, have returned and are full of life!
-
At $289,000 median home price, FTSQ is already becoming more pricey than the rest of the city, which has a median around $235,000. More and more young working professionals, families, and other city folk will take up residence here; there’s just so much it has to offer!
