The village of Khonoma in Nagaland is about 5,318 Feet above sea level. On October 25, 2005 Khonoma was formally declared as a 'Green Village' by the State Government.

The forest now no longer wakes to the sound of gunshots. The ban on hunting and logging was imposed by the elders of the village in December 1998 as they realised that it was high time to preserve the environment for the next generation.

From being known as a village of great hunters, the present day Khonoma is known as a 'No Hunting' village, and all these for the love of nurturing Nature, crucial for their sustenance. It's the sense of giving back to the nature that makes Khonoma and its people special.

My visit to this serene village in the last week of December 2019 with my wife and daughter was an eye-opener and documenting it is of a thanksgiving to the warrior tribe, Angami of Khonomma Green Village and also to the people of Nagaland.
