"Choosing the new pope was a surprise to everybody. No one imagined choosing a pope at his age from a country in Latin America, and Argentina. You can see from the expression on his face that he himself was surprised when he was on the platform of the Vatican window. But the thing that attracted the people was his demand to pray for him and bless him as he bowed his head in order to take on this very hard mission."

STORYLINE:
The Iraqi Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon and the head of the Chaldean Catholic church said the simplicity and good passion of Pope Francis would give hope to humanity.
"Everybody was surprised by this choice, maybe even himself," he said.
We saw him when he appeared in the Vatican in St Peter's Church, he was a little bit hesitating, but when he began to speak, it was something else. I think his simplicity and also compassion and humility will give a lot of hope for humanity," Louis Raphael I Sako said in Baghdad on Friday.
Patriarch Sako said he believed the new pope would help poor and innocent people.
"He knows very well the poorness of people and the oppression of the rich, also that of powerful people upon innocent people," he said.
Louis Raphael Sako was elected the Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon and the Head of the Chaldean Catholic Church last month.
He succeeded Emmanuel III Delly who resigned due to old age.
Sako chose Louis Raphael I as his regnal name.
