Related to MOB buoy, Very common observation found by the PSC and other Inspector such as CDI and vetting inspector is line which is attached between the MOB Buoy and smoke signal found tangled which do not allow auto release of MOB buoy during emergency.
So before inspection please check your buoy arrangement.
The M.O.B Lifebuoy Marker is normally mounted on a ship’s bridge wing attached to a 4 kg lifebuoy. It is automatically or manually deployed to mark the position of a person in the water by day or night. Featuring a self-activated LED lighting system which SOLAS requirements for 2 candela light output with minimum 2 hours duration, plus providing 15 minutes of dense orange smoke. Ships are required to fit at least two markers.
Please do remember about the following regulatory matters regarding MOB Buoy.
• Have an outer diameter of not more than 800 mm and an inner diameter of at least 400 mm
• Grab line attached must not be less than 10 mm in diameter and length not less than 4 times of outer diameter
• Day and night signal attached to 4kg lifebuoy and used in an emergency to mark the position of man overboard.
• Buoy must provides 15 minutes of dense orange smoke.
• Far exceeds SOLAS requirements of 2 hours at 2 candela for light output and duration.
• Safe to use on petrol or oil covered water.
• Lithium batteries sealed for life-no annual replacement.
• Screw fit, inversion switched, LED light units.
• Automatic or manual deployment.
• Temperature range : -30°C to +65°C
• Burning time : 15 minutes
• Color of light : white
• Duration : 2 candela for 2 hours
