‘Live dangerously’
Two words
And an entire world of meaning behind them.
They seem irresponsible.
Careless.
Very reckless.
However, as with almost all things Friedrich Nietzsche has said, the context is important to go into.
In his book ‘The Gay Science’, Nietzsche observed:
“For believe me: the secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment is – to live dangerously!”
To fully comprehend the meaning of ‘living dangerously’ lets take a look at the entire picture Nietzsche was trying to paint.
“Let us beware of saying that there are laws in nature. There are only necessities: there is nobody who commands, nobody who obeys, nobody who trespasses.”
Said the philosopher.
Or in other words, the world that we know is devoid of any absolute meaning or laws. Man thinks that there is. But it is more of a necessity than a reality.
Depressing?
Nietzsche would disagree.
In fact, according to him, due to the world having no absolute meaning or laws, ‘accidents’ do not actually exist. Everything is dependent on one another. Circumstances are not just accidents. In fact, they are the ways in which others have affected your life from angles which are just not visible to you.
