The best Poetic Case for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR? It’s the Poetic Guardian. With that being said, will the well-priced Guardian cheapen the feel of my iPhone?
I’m just going to leave this here. I think Poetic is the king of affordable/budget cases. There products are well-priced BUT unlike some of the other discount brands out there, it seems like Poetic actually takes the time to design ~most of their cases.

POETIC REVOLUTION 00:01:21
Pros
-has a kickstand
-lots of texture
-buttons are nice
-has a built in screen protector
Cons
-has a built in screen protector
-questionable fit
The Revolution is Poetic’s flashiest cases. There’s a lot going on with the Revolution and that’s a bad thing from my perspective.
The Revolution won’t slide around easily, will add about 64 g’s to your iPhone and I had no issue with wear and tear.
The Revolution and Guardian share similar design aspects. Both cases have two layers to it. The iPhone its in a PC frame that gets wrapped in TPU. This design feature is similar to the Otterbox Defenders.
The edges of the case are high enough to easily keep the screen protector off a flat surface. Both the Guardian and Revolution has dust covers for the lightning port and mute switch which is nice.
When it comes to drop protection, despite having a similar design to the Otterbox Defender, the materials on the Guardian are much thinner so it won’t be as tough. I’d be comfortable dropping my iPhone from waist height in this case.
I didn’t have any access issues as the buttons which are quite nice, the lighting port is accessible there are no issues with camera access.
There is a kickstand on the back of the case and Poetic does a good job of making it large enough for it to be stable. It is a pain to get the kickstand out of the case though.
When it comes to the built in screen protector, I was expecting a flurry of usability issues. BUT after using it for a while, I will say that the built in screen protectors aren’t terrible on Poetic’s cases. They’re not great either.
The fit of the screen protector isn’t bad in the middle but the corners may require a double tap in certain instances. Finger-printing is going to be a big issue with these screen protectors and water/dust debris will be caught around the cutouts at the top.
The Guardian basically sums up my problem with affordable/budget cases. They make my iPhone feel cheap.
POETIC LUMOS 00:06:18
Pros
-Grippy?
-Clear?
Cons
-Boring
The Lumos is the only 100% clear case in Poetic’s collection. AND there is nothing special about it.
POETIC NUBUCK 00:07:13
Pros
-Unique finish
-Different design
Cons
-Doesn’t offer much iPhone protection
I do like the poetic NuBuck. Why? Because it’s different.
In terms of size, the NuBuck is tiny. It doesn’t add much bulk to your iPhone and fits your iPhone quite well. The edges of the case are very shallow so get a screen protector. The case wears well over time and the overall combination of the fabric, leather and TPU handles quite well.
The NuBuck is the least protective case in this video as I doubt it will do much in a drop over 1 m.
I had no issues with accessing my iPhone in the NuBuck. Cards are easily accessible in the pocket so it’s perfect for those who need to use it with a bus pass or RFID access card.
POETIC GUARDIAN 00:08:44
Pros
-has covers for everything
-built in screen protector
-clear back is raised
-oversized corners improves handling
-easy to use buttons
Cons
-built in screen protector
The Guardian is my favourite. Why? Because the design of the case doesn’t make my iPhone feel cheap. It still has built in screen protector which I’m not a big fan.
As I said a few minutes earlier, the Guardian and Revolution share a similar design. The Guardian has a clear back with clean lines at the bottom. There’s nothing visually jarring about the back. The corners are larger than the Revolution which means it can handle drops a little better.
The standout feature for the Guardian is the finish on the TPU edge. The matte finish isn’t as abrasive as the Guardians and feels quite nice. Overall, it just feels like a suitable finish on an accessory for the stupidly expensive iPhone.
At the end of the day, the Guardian doesn’t make my iPhone feel or look cheap.
