Common misconception that needs to be broken: Many people think Toyota Hybrid cars use CVT with a 'push-belt'. These types made infamous by Nissan, Subaru etc are very prone to failure. Toyota Hybrid cars use an e-CVT. They are NOTHING like a traditional CVT. There is no clutch connection or hydraulic connection. Instead the electric motor and gas engine are 'connected' via a planetary gearset that is manipulated by electromagnetism/adjusting the current to the electric motors.

This is an GROSS OVERSIMPLIFICATION. The point is there are no 'friction parts' such as a steel push-belt in a Toyota e-CVT found in Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive cars.

There is really no transmission in a Toyota Hybrid. The 'synergy' acts as a transmission.
