Fruits and veggies have a pretty healthy reputation, but some of them have a dirty little secret: pesticides. Here’s a look at this year’s “Dirty Dozen.” Each year, the Environmental Working Group shares its “Dirty Dozen” list of fruits and veggies contaminated with pesticides. Topping the list this year? One of my favorites: strawberries. Add to that spinach, apples, and potatoes. The EWG claims pesticide residue can stay on the produce after it’s washed and sometimes even after it’s peeled. They recommend buying organic just to be safe. Not everyone agrees. The Alliance for Food and Farming stands on the other side of the fence. They claim the pesticide residue doesn’t pose a safety risk. Bottom line? Both sides agree that a healthy diet includes fruits and veggies.
