Join us as we day trip Morrison, Colorado - Gateway to Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre. The town of Morrison is 15 miles Southwest of Denver on State Highway C-470 and Morrison Road.
The foothills settlement is named after George Morrison, a builder and stonesman who left his mark on the history of the area. As a quarryman Morrison developed building stones (made of lime & gypsum) and built several stone buildings - two that he built in Morrison are still standing.
The town of Morrison was officially incorporated in 1906. The town has a total of 2.2 square miles of land. Mount Morrison behind Red Rocks Park is famous as the first discovery site of three 150 million year old dinosaurs. There is a natural museum in town that goes into details about the discovery.
At the edge of town is Red Rocks Park with several hiking trails, a trading post and of course the world famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre built in 1941 which hosts many concerts and events. With bars, eateries, and shops right down the road Morrison is the perfect spot to go before and after a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
