If a person is drowning would you try to save them? If a person begins choking next to you at a restaurant, would you try to save their life with a Heimlich maneuver? Dr. Campbell discusses the new use of the old anesthesia drug Ketamine that has been shown to decrease suicidal tendencies in severely depressed patients. He explains the use of this drug to provide a pharmaceutical lifeboat that may other treatment modalities time to take effect.
Dr. Joe Campbell is an anesthesiologist, medical director of the surgery suite, and a chief medical officer of Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He has been a practicing board certified anesthesiologist for almost 30 years and has broad experience with all aspects of anesthesia which include pediatric, cardiovascular, vascular, neuro, and orthopedics. He holds a Medical Degree from the University of Mississippi and completed a residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
