The Roman theatre of Plovdiv also known as the ancient theatre of Philippopolis is one of the world's best-preserved ancient theatres, located in the city center of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. It was constructed during the reign of emperor Trajan. The restoration of the ancient theatre is recognized as one of the greatest achievements in the conservation field in Bulgaria. The Philippopolis theatre can host between 5000 and 7000 spectators and it is currently in use. During the summer months, the theatre hosts theatrical plays and musical shows.
