The Kuiper Belt is a vast region beyond Neptune, filled with icy bodies and dwarf planets. Discovered with Pluto in 1930, this area remained mysterious until the James Webb Space Telescope's recent clear images. Named after astronomer Gerard Kuiper, who predicted its existence, the Kuiper Belt significantly expands our understanding of the solar system.
This region hosts a diverse collection of objects, including dwarf planets like Haumea, Makemake, and Eris, each offering insights into the early solar system. Unlike the distant Oort Cloud, the Kuiper Belt is more densely populated and a source of short-period comets. Key missions like New Horizons continue to explore this intriguing frontier, revealing the dynamic history and evolution of our cosmic neighborhood.
