In this video, Trevor Theismann from Kbands Training takes viewers through a powerful defensive drill that can help football players build speed, balance, and explosivity off the line. This drill involves only a few simple pieces of equipment, including a set of agility cones and a pair of Kbands resistance training bands for each player.
At the start of the drill, players will stand beside the first of five cones laid out about six yards apart in a zig zag formation that resembles a large W. When the signal is given, the player will explode forward to the next cone in line, pivot around the cone without rotating his body, then back pedal to the next cone. At that point he'll pivot again and rush forward to the next, and so on.
With the Kbands in place around the player's upper legs, his core and hip flexors will need to exert extra effort in order to keep him in balance and moving at top speed. This added tension will magnify the already powerful effects of this drill, and when the bands are removed for a few final unresisted reps, players will feel the difference. Working this set of football defensive drills into a regular training program can take any defensive game to the next level.
