From August 20th to August 24th, 2024, the Sister City visitors from Kanie, Japan, traveled to Marion, IL for a week full of incredible experiences and cultural exchange. The adults engaged in meaningful conversations about business and government, while the junior high students experienced what it’s like to be a kid in Marion, IL, learning about how to american education system works and daily life. This video captures all the highlights of their stay, from their arrival at St. Louis Lambert International Airport to the days of exploring Marion, IL, and its surrounding attractions.
Our friends from Kanie enjoyed activities that ranged from a golf outing at Kokopelli Golf Club, to tours of local businesses like Aisin Manufacturing and Pepsi MidAmerica, to an unforgettable helicopter experience with Black Diamond Harley-Davidson. They also had a chance to experience places like Southern Illinois University, Walker’s Bluff Winery & Casino, and Cold Blooded Coffee & Roastery.
In addition to these exciting activities, they explored the heart of Marion, including a mural and business tour, a football game at Marion High School, and a relaxing evening fountain tour at Tower Square. It was a week filled with lasting memories and a strengthened connection between our two communities.
It was a privilege to meet our Sister City visitors, and we can't wait to continue this rich tradition of cultural exchange. Thank you to everyone who made this week possible!
