Conspiracy theories, misinformation and disinformation can undermine the political process and democracy in the United States.
Americans saw that firsthand on Jan. 6 when supporters of former President Donald Trump spouting QAnon theories breached the U.S. Capitol as lawmakers were certifying the results of the 2020 general election.
But it goes further than harming democracy.
The fact is, conspiracy thoughts can erode the very fabric of society and ruin personal relationships.
