There are enough slices to last one week and a half for a dog. It's impressive considering a bag of beef jerky at Walmart costs over $10, and it's full of preservatives; even though it says 100% natural and safe on the package, there is still some weird stuff, and who knows what's really in that bag! I prefer to opt for the safest way, and it's so easy to prepare and always fresh.

For those wondering if making homemade jerky safe for dogs? The answer is YES; it's much safer than what you find in the store, as long as you have a fresh piece of meat. (Please, if your meat smells bad, don't use it, or your dog will be sick!)

Talking about meat, I strongly recommend buying a piece of an eye of round beef. It will be softer and tastier. If you are curious, you can even eat it since there is nothing in this other than the beef.

Some dog parents often ask me if dry beef jerky is good for dogs? Well, I never had any issues in 16 years with my three dogs, and the slice of beef jerky is still a good protein, as long as you remove the fat before drying it in the dehydrator. Trust me; it's much tasty than those you find in stores. That slightly sticky texture over the slice released from the meat during the drying process makes it delicious. I would not count on the nutriments, though, but the goal here is to have a safe and a TASTY treat for your dog.

As a side note, I keep a bag (I use a Ziploc) of the jerky beef maximum of one week in the refrigerator. Because it's natural without preservatives, you can't keep it much longer.

Be aware; some dogs tend to go for the beef jerky over their meal, don't fall for their cute eyes! Feeding two per day is way enough.
