This video is Part 2 of replacing the damaged hydraulic cylinder rod for a Caterpillar D10 Bulldozer ripper lift cylinder. In this video we machine up the new cylinder rod on our TM-26120G lathe. We are using a 3 1/4" diameter induction hardened chrome bar. First we need to machine one end for the piston and nut. We machine through the induction hardened chrome layer before turning down the OD for the piston and cutting the external thread for the nut. Then we machine the other end to weld prep for the rod eye by machining a bevel and drilling a hole for the eye spigot. We then attach and metal core weld the rod eye from Part 1 onto the new rod.
