This large statue of an angel made most entirely of knives has been erected in Central Park in Chelmsford.
Essex Police said that "it has been created by The British Ironwork Centre and artist Alfie Bradley".
Footage of the incredible 'Knife Angel' statue was shared on Facebook by Essex Police with the message: "Whatever situation you’re in, carrying a knife is never the right thing to do' – that’s the message from our Deputy Chief Constable as he welcomed the Knife Angel to Chelmsford.
"The imposing 27-foot sculpture, made from 100,000 surrendered weapons, was erected in Central Park on Monday (6 September) and aims to raise awareness of knife crime.
"DCC Andy Prophet was there when the statue was unveiled and said: 'A knife will either cause you or somebody else serious harm'.
"Our work to tackle knife crime has seen knife-enabled crime fall by 13 percent in the last year or so and our Op Raptor team, who tackle street and drugs gangs, made 272 arrests in the first six months of the year."
DCC Andy Prophet joined partners at the launch of the statue, including Chelmsford City Council and Keep It 100, an organisation educating young people on alternatives to criminal activities.
Keep It 100 says on their website: "The knife angel visit to Chelmsford began as an ambition of our founder, Luisa di Marco in 2018. She discovered its existence when wondering how to visually impact weapons carriers into finding a creative alternative to carrying. She then set up bringing it to Essex - to get necessary conversations started.
"In late 2019, she met with Chelmsford City Council - because Chelmsfords status a county town of Essex - and in early 2020 secured the angel visit to Essex as a gift to Keep It 100 in support of raising awareness of our work in encouraging young people to engage in positive outlets as part of a positive and productive lifestyle away from crime.
