“Station Eleven” had the unfortunate timing of shooting a series about a deadly outbreak right before the start of the very real COVID-19 pandemic. The HBO Max series shot its episode in January 2020, shortly after lockdown forced the crew to pause filming before resuming a year later. In that downtime series creator and showrunner Patrick Somerville began thinking about what he would have done differently in that pilot, had he known the outcome of the world a month later.
