In 2018, Samsung grabbed headlines for its commitment to 100% renewable energy in the US, China and Europe. But three years later, Samsung still relies heavily on coal and other fossil fuels in its worldwide operations.
The facts:
- Samsung continues to guzzle coal power in Vietnam and Korea, where more than 80% of the company’s total electricity consumption takes place.
- Samsung received a D in Greenpeace East Asia’s most recent tech company ranking, behind Tencent, Huawei, LG Electronics and Sony. In 2019,
- Samsung consumed the equivalent of one-fifth of South Korea’s total household electricity consumption, eating away at Korea’s national carbon budget.
