The diet for Pitta and Kapha dual dosha diet will focus on what they have in common, what will bring balance to BOTH doshas.
As explained, everything comes back to the foundational elements; earth, water, fire, air and ether. Kapha is made up of earth and water. Pitta is made up of fire and water. What elements are missing from both doshas??? AIR and ETHER. So in our diets, someone with a PK imbalance will want to focus on eating foods with more air and ether elements.
The elements are what make up the Ayurvedic 6 tastes. The two common tastes that bring balance to both Pitta and Kapha is the bitter (air and ether) and astringent (air and earth) tastes. This means that by focusing on these two tastes more, you'll help in reducing a PK imbalance.
*It is important to note that even when working to reduce and imbalance, one must consume all 6 tastes for ultimate harmony. However when you are working to reduce a PK imbalance your diet should have more bitter and astringent foods, and less of others tastes.
