Since 2018, Burkina Faso’s northern desert region of Sahel – the driest and hottest part of the country – has been at the centre of a growing armed conflict that has engulfed much of the greater African Sahel countries.
The violence coupled with the impact of the climate emergency has left communities here highly vulnerable – without water, at risk of disease and in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare.
