Of late, we are noticing that a lot of people are taking high-altitude trekking very casually. That is leading to unprepared and unfit trekkers on the slopes, which is not alright. So at Indiahikes, we have introduced eligibility criteria for all our treks. We will be asking you to share your fitness routine and your BMI.
To make things simple, it would be best for you to know your own BMI and assess yourself. Understand what level of difficulty would suit you and then choose a trek.
Having a high BMI by itself does not affect your trekking performance. What matters is your fitness level. We have had many trekkers with high BMI successfully complete treks with adequate preparation.
But here’s what we have observed.
Having a high BMI, especially when you’re overweight, affects your trek in three ways:
1. Lagging behind from the group
2. Requires additional care and attention
3. Health and Safety risk
In this video, Dushyant Sharma explains the above points and also tells you if you have a High BMI, how you can work on it and get better so that you go on a trek.
