The Mist Trail is Yosemite National Park's most popular trail and the first half of the trek to the summit of Half Dome.
Beginning at the Happy Isles trailhead The Mist Trail winds up along the path of the Merced River as it plunges from Yosemite's high country over Nevada and Vernal Falls into Yosemite Valley.
This trail is rated as moderate to strenuous, measuring 2.4 miles out and back to the brink of Vernal Falls and 5.4 miles round trip to the brink of Nevada Falls gaining more than 2000 ft in elevation from the Happy Isles Trailhead.
During the spring and early summer, the runoff from the high country makes this trail particularly thrilling and potentially dangerous. People lose their lives each year along this trail when they are swept into swift moving water. Even relatively calm sections of the river have been responsible for fatalities. Stay safe and exercise caution along this spectacular trail.
Trailhead: Happy Isle Yosemite Valley
Difficulty: Moderate - Strenuous
Distance: 7 Miles
