There is no artist in Free State (Bloemfontein, Thaba-Nchu and Botshabelo) with as much popular appeal and critical acclaim as Nonkosi. The musician, dancer (Diski Dancer), producer, creative collaborator and more has earned the adoration of fans across a broad spectrum of cultural backgrounds since she first appeared on the scene at the onset of the Free State Carnival Festival with the well known afro pop group "KAYA". This singing sensation who easily displays her vocal prowess in the way she comfortably fuses soul, Afro-jazz, gospel and R&B in her music and has won numerous dance and music auditions and awards such as South African Rock Challenge Festival. She was nominated at the MOKETE FREE STATE AWARDS as the Best Female of the year 2010, and has won the Best R&B Song of the year 2010 as well. She is well known in the Jazz Festivals and Sunday Blues that are held at Botshabelo and events such as Ladies Night, Private Parties and she participate in the Women's Conferences.
Nonkosi's appreciation, understanding and mastery of ethnic melodies and harmonies are evident in songs such as 'Lerato' and 'Patience' with stamping and resonating rhythms Nonkosi's Afro-Soul music has also found partner in ethnic or Free State rap with her collaboration with the up and coming ethnic hip-hop artist, Guilty Boys, Poison, and well known Gospel sensation Pastor Benjamin Dube and the High Praise Explosion -- Free State Choir as they passionately deliver strong and truly Afro-centric vocal punches on songs like 'Africa Vuma' and 'Elethu Basha'. And she then joined a Jazz band called Afro Charisma in Botshabelo of which they perform every weekend at different occasions in the Motheo District. She was also a part of Basadi Ba Foreistata as a singer and a dancer. She took part in the Theatre Musical Show (Story Telling) at Mmabana in Thaba-Nchu.
Apart from the collaboration with Benjamin Dube being Nonkosi's first, she is no stranger to the music industry having graced Free State's numerous music concerts and festivals both as a Lead Singer in soprano and a featured soloist with some of the country's top artists such KAYA and High Praise Explosion, Free State 2008. Nonkosi's strong African features coupled with her height and vocal flair also earned her a role in a feature Talent Search Shows first to be ever held in Free State. She has done a promotional work for the Old Gold Company' where she appears as the host of that era. She has taken part in empowering women as a motivational speaker at the Women's Conference at the Bloemfontein's Glass House in the year 2009. She also collaborated with the SIWELELE BAND on their new album for 2010. She has done more of the community engagement services with the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in Free State. Nonkosi is currently working at a dance project called VUKA DANCE FACTORY. And she has participated in the MACUFE of 2008 and 2009 as well. She recently performed as a Guest Speaker and Performer at the Candle Light Ceremony of the Central University of Technology, Free State
Nonkosi is definitely a career artist whose music, dances and creativity has undoubtedly a long shelf life which has found its place in the hearts of many audiences, locally.
