Saliva Guitarist Wayne Swinny Dies at 59 After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage While on Tour
Wayne Swinny, the founding member and lead guitarist of the nu-metal band Saliva, has died at the age of 59. He suffered a brain hemorrhage while on tour, and passed away in the ICU the following day. Swinny was the only current member of Saliva to have been with the band since their first album in 1996, and over the past 27 years, the group had released 11 albums and reached No. 1 on Billboard’s alternative rock chart with their biggest song, “Always.” Saliva had been in the midst of a 16-date headlining tour when Swinny fell ill. The band announced his death on social media, and singer Bobby Amaru paid tribute to Swinny, describing him as a guitar hero on stage and an incredible human being off stage. DJ Meltdown of Detroit radio station WRIF also paid tribute, saying Swinny was a genuine, quality person who was always happy to meet fans and talk about his passions, including his love of the Raiders football team.
