In observance of Christmas week, Dead Tenors’ Society is showcasing a series of sacred recordings by legendary Italian tenor Franco Corelli (1921-2003). I will forgo the usual lengthy biography of the tenor in this week’s postings. A full profile of this tenor will appear in April when I will be devoting programs to Corelli in honor of his centenary.
In this recording, Corelli sings “Pietà, Signore” from Louis Niedermeyer’s Stradella. This was recorded in Milan for EMI in 1963 with Raffaele Mingardo at the podium.
