rules, Conway's game of life
1 Any live cell with fewer than two live neighbours dies, as if by underpopulation.
2 Any live cell with two or three live neighbours lives on to the next generation.
3 Any live cell with more than three live neighbours dies, as if by overpopulation.
4 Any dead cell with exactly three live neighbours becomes a live cell, as if by reproduction.
This movie is generated using a python script programmed by the Cyborg Art Collective. By interpreting the RGB-code of the pixels as the artificial lifeform's resource requirements and reproductive qualities, the Cyborg Art Collective's game of life attempts to explore environmental influences on biodiversity. The goal is to develop a interactive artwork in which a virtual environment is setup with high sensitivity for initial conditions that influence the diversity of different colors in the digital space. The audience observing this virtual domain influence the conditions of the digital environment and radically change this diversity. This virtual world develops at high speed to make climate change and mass extinction directly observable in an attempt to make people think about the fragility of ecosystems.
