Discover the historic voyage of the first English ship to sail around the globe.
Part 1: The Background
In 1577 England was known as a 'nation of pirates'. In this context, Francis Drake circumnavigated the world, returning three years later aboard The Golden Hinde - a ship laden with treasure and suddenly steeped in scandal...
But his violent actions and theft of unimaginable treasures contributed to growing tensions between England and Spain which would ultimately result in the Spanish Armada and war!
How did Drake's acts of piracy earn him a knighthood? In our first Circumnavigation video we meet the main players, entering a world of Elizabethan intrigue, where pirates, sea-battles and skullduggery await!
