Boggarts have entered the modern consciousness through the Harry Potter Stories.

In British folklore, boggarts appear often in tales that date back centuries.

There are different variations of the beast, which depend on the area of origin and the story. In general, they are spirits who like to cause trouble and mischief for people. They can be found inside people’s houses, hiding in dark places from where they emerge to scare the occupants of the house by knocking things over or causing general mayhem.
