I started my journey at Upper Montclair Station on August 7 to get to NY Penn Station to catch the Lake Shore Limited train. The Lake Shore Limited to Chicago was severely delayed due to a late Boston train at Albany-Rensselaer. I barely made the transfer to the Empire Builder at Chicago as the Lake Shore Limited was 4 hours late. After 2 days and 2 nights on the Empire Builder, I arrived at Portland on August 10 and had 9 hours until my connecting train to Seattle. I was able to explore Portland for a few hours until my Cascades train ride up to Seattle. After 4 days and 3 nights on the train, this was a good way to go sightseeing across the United States.
