Governor Christie:
Let's face it: I know for sure that you all in this town and across New Jersey didn't vote for me for my charm and good looks. Right? You voted for me because you thought this guy just might be tough enough to take on the big problems that everyone else has been afraid to take on and to finally fix this place. And so the guy you vote for to do that doesn't walk away and leave the problem for somebody else to fix. You take them on yourself.
So what's that led us to do now as we stand here today in 2012? Well, first off, we proposed a budget this year with no budget deficit. Remember two years ago 11 billion. This year no budget deficit. Second this year we proposed to cut everyone's income taxes in New Jersey by 10%. Put more money in everybody's pocket and cut everybody's income taxes by 10% because it's time to give you some of your money back.
The reason I want to cut your income taxes is so that you never send it to us in the first place. Because if you send it to us and count on us to send it back to you you'll be waiting by that mailbox opening up an envelope—not today. Try again. No, not today. We'll see when they're actually going to send it back. Don't send it to us in the first place. Then we won't be able to spend it. That's some idea that's either a good idea or a bad idea. I'd rather have you spend it or save it. Do what you want to do with it.
