U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins expresses frustration with lack of urgency in government
U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Rachael Rollins is reflecting on one of the biggest challenges she’s encountered in her first year in office: the bureaucracy of federal government.
“It’s the lack of urgency,” Rollins said when she joined Jim Braude on Greater Boston. “I want to move on things.”
Rollins emphasized that the issue is not specific to the Biden administration, but rather with how government functions as a whole.
“I think it’s the frustration many people feel with government,” she said. “For certain communities that I took this job to help — they don’t need four months of affirmations and compliances. … They need to know their federal government cares enough to show up, even if they say nothing. And that is what I was able to do as [District Attorney] and what I really want this office to be as U.S. Attorney.”
Rollins also spoke about the ongoing investigation into the Worcester Police Department, whether Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may have broken laws when he shipped 49 Migrants to Martha's Vineyard, and an investigation into some of her recent actions.
She credited media stories from GBH News and The Boston Globe, among others, for prompting her to launch an investigation into accusations of racism in Everett.
“Speaking out against bigotry and hatred is hard,” Rollins said. “If I were silent, my job would be much easier.”
North End's Daily Catch serves up calamari and pasta the old fashioned way
The Daily Catch in Boston's North End recently earned a coveted five-star rating from the Boston Globe for its classic calamari and pasta dishes served right in the pan. Brothers Basil and Louis Freddura, whose parents opened the restaurant, joined Jim Braude to talk about the restaurant's success and their best dishes which they brought to the set. That included a squid ink pasta, octopus salad and more.
