At Choro Camp New England 2020 we will focus on tunes composed in 5 different rhythmic styles: polca, choro, samba, maxixe and baião. One of this year's Choro Camp instructors, Brian Rice, has prepared a series of introductory videos demonstrating each of these rhythms on the primary percussion instrument used in a choro ensemble, the pandeiro. This video is devoted to the "polca". This rhythm has been used since the very beginning of the choro tradition and is, in every sense, foundational. Enjoy!
