Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28, 2024, after being granted bail by the high court in a money laundering case linked to a land scam. The case involved the forgery of land documents for 8.5 acres in the Badgai area of Ranchi. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Soren on January 31, 2024, following an extensive investigation revealing a land mafia's involvement in tampering with land records. Soren's release comes ahead of the State Assembly elections in November.
