In August 1944, 18-year-old Simone Segouin, alias Nicole, was a French resistance fighter spotted in Chartres with a captured German MP-40 submachine gun. Part of the Francs-Tireurs et Partisans Français (FTPF), she and Lt. Roland Boursier sabotaged German operations, including capturing 25 soldiers.
After Chartres' liberation, Segouin joined the French 2nd Armored Division, fighting in Paris until its liberation on August 25, 1944, and marched with Gen. Charles de Gaulle. Born in 1925 in Thivars, she began aiding the resistance at 14, learning guerrilla tactics from Boursier, with whom she had six children. Awarded the Croix de Guerre, she became a pediatric nurse post-war. Segouin passed away at 97 on February 21, leaving a legacy of courage and contribution to France's liberation.
