This video was done as a response to the video by History Matters: Why Did Britain Refuse to Annex Malta? (Short Animated Documentary) A point which I also want to mention is that some of the Maltese who worked directly with the British were grateful for the opportunity of work, and were sorry for them leaving, as a great level of uncertainty about Malta's future followed. Ultimately, the gradual decolonisation process of Malta which led to the last forces leaving the island on 31st March 1979, was also a period of new relations with other countries and of high efforts to better the economy. Malta's policy of neutrality was a main factor, and acted as a bridge between North and South (Euro-African), as well as became symbol of peace between the East and West (1989 Malta Summit - Bush (USA) and Gorbachev (USSR)). Malta was able to prove itself.
