With today's guitar lesson series we will take a look at how to play all of "Time" by the great Pink Floyd.
Appearing on the Dark Side of the Moon album, "Time" has long been a favorite Pink Floyd track of mine.
The first video covers all of the chords or rhythms. There is a liberal amount of guitar layering going on and I do my best to demonstrate both guitar parts. However, this song can still sound great with just one guitar.
The chords and rhythms are relatively basic and shouldn't be too hard to master for most intermediate level players.
The real star of the show here is definitely David Gilmours epic guitar solo for "Time". In this Time guitar lesson I will demonstrate how to play the entire solo note-for-note. The second video lesson is where you will find the lesson teaching the solo.
Perhaps my favorite solo by one of my favorite guitarists, the solo in "Time" by Pink Floyd is one the greatest examples of using a solo to create a song within a song, something David Gilmour is masterful at doing.
It's incredible to listen to how the solo develops, never rushing to prove a point too fast but when it does it is breathtaking.
To me David Gilmour practically invented the art of the huge soaring guitar solo. I mean listen to that tone! In the early seventies to boot!!
Technically there isn't a lot of fast fretwork, but instead we have a TON of bends that require special attention to keep in tune. David Gilmour literally adds bends to his bends throughout the entire solo.
In this Time guitar solo lesson I will take you note-for-note through this masterpiece and show you how to attack each difficulty one by one.
With all of those bends the Time guitar solo is great to play a few times each day simply to keep your calluses up!
Besides the bending difficulties I hope you use this solo to inspire you to create your own musical statements during your solos. You simply can't have a better model than this one. :)
