The Fokker D.XXIII, a Dutch twin-engine fighter aircraft, caught the attention of the Soviets at the 1938 Paris Air Show. The Soviets subsequently developed a similar aircraft, the SAM-13, which had smaller dimensions and was considered a lightweight experimental fighter, but its performance was not satisfactory and the prototype was destroyed during the German invasion.
