Unfortunately the COVID-19 Pandemic put a stop to this years Fringe Festival and the Exquisite Corpse art opening at Olga Gallery. On the positive side we (15 artists) completed an ambitious, collaborative drawing project through which the participants had rich opportunities to be creative and to experience inspiration and enjoyment.
“Unimaginable by one brain alone.” This quote by Surrealist poet Simone Khan sums up the 10 drawings of which this successful collaboration breed. A vintage drawing game, Exquisite Corpse was invented in the 1920's by the Surrealists. A typical Exquisite Corpse is a freestyle representation of a human (or non-human) body. During the game, each artist takes a turn drawing part of a picture and folds the paper to conceal what was drawn in their assigned section, before passing it on to the next artist.
A big thank you to my partner Mitch for all of his support and genius. Thank you to the exceptionally talented collaborators: Aroha Novak, Kirsten Ferguson, John Z Robinson, Sharon Singer, Emma Chalmers, Anna Perry, Guy Howard Smith, Michael Greaves, Rosa Cameron, Felix Harris, Lynley Opihi, Grant Ramsay, and Nicola Hansby.
The work is currently on show at the temporarily closed Olga Gallery.
