The Most Terrifying Man of the Korean War

Not many people could win a bayonet fight in which they got part of their brain blown out by
a grenade, but Corporal Rudy Hernández wasn’t most people.
During a single desperate night of fighting in Korea, this American soldier stood
courageously against superior numbers, fought on when all seemed lost, and suffered
injuries that would change his life. In the process, he saved his unit from defeat.
Even blood-soaked and on the verge of death, Hernández rose far beyond the pragmatic
motives that carried him to war.
