A left-wing alliance has emerged as the largest group in the French parliament after tactical voting prevented the far right from gaining more seats, though no party secured an absolute majority, leaving the future government uncertain.
The New Popular Front, a leftwing coalition, secured 182 seats, outpacing President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist Together alliance, which won 163 seats. The far right, led by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN), came in third with 143 seats. Despite a strong showing in the first round, the far right was ultimately thwarted by widespread tactical voting.
