Febrile seizures are common types of seizures in children, common 6 months to 6 years of age. Commonly seen when the child has fever, like in viral infection, in gastrointestinal infection and diarrhoea or it can be due to malaria or urinary tract infection. Whatever may be the cause of seizures, children may be more prone for seizures and seizures can be focal seizures or generalized seizures. You will categorize two types, general febrile seizures and complex febrile seizures. The complex febrile seizures, there is chances of recurrence in the future also. So during fever parents should take care, it should be treated with the appropriate medicines. Along with that you should have medicines suggested by the neurologist or pediatrician for 2 – 3 days as advised. These Febrile seizures can be triggered. So whatever may be the cause for fever, you can prevent the infection in general. Febrile seizures various ways of prevention of infection like proper hygiene, immunization schedules are there to prevent the recurrent infections and proper maintenance of hygiene in the home and environment.
