Lepchas calls themselves Mutanchi Rongkup Rumkup. Its literal meaning is “beloved children of mother nature and God”. Lepcha folk tunes and music are based on various natural sounds, the voices of animals, birds and insects, and chants by male and female priests. Lepcha folk dances are also inspired by the movements of animals, birds and fishes. The Lepcha New Year festival is celebrated with the “Nam Aal, Nambun, Nam Sung” performance.
