I had been noticing the following symptoms with my 2004 Honda Civic 1.6 with more than 113,000 kms (not miles):
1. Terrible fuel economy.
2. Damp low-end power (not quick to respond to throttle).
3. A.C not as cool as a recently refurbished and re-gassed unit should be.
4. Bubbles in the radiator. Fluid gushing out when throttled.
I saw a million videos and articles on gasket sealant, similar symptoms, so concluded this was a headgasket issue. So I thought to give it a try. Found an Abro Super Seal in my neighborhood auto pharmacy.
Procedure:
1. Drained entire coolant several times when cool.
2. Replaced with water.
3. Added Abro Super-Seal.
4. Ran engine for 25 minutes at idle. Shut engine and let it sit overnight.
5. Drained fluid. Refilled fresh coolant.
6. Drove for 40ish kms without exceeding 2000 rpms.
Results: The bubbles seem a little reduced. A.C seems to be cooling more! However, coolant still gushes out when throttling, therefore, I conclude this stuff DOESN'T work. Maybe because it was the cheap variety. I guess the only real solution is dissecting the engine and replacing headgasket.
Your thoughts?
(Note: Before doing this, I used a radiator flushing product to clean the inside of the radiator several days prior. Followed instructions to do that as on the bottle. Lots of rusty gunk came out.
