Police in India's eastern West Bengal state clashed with thousands of activists protesting the prevailing unemployment situation in the province, Friday, September 13.
Protesters said that about 14 people were injured after struck with being struck with batons and sprayed by water cannons. They were taken to the hospital, and two of the protesters are reported to be in a serious condition.
The protesters, belonging to the youth wing and student wing of Communist Party of India, began a march from an abandoned car manufacturing plant in the Singur region, Thursday, September 12, and were heading toward State Secretariat when the clashes broke out. Protesters reportedly pelted police with stones. (Reuters)
